MTS celebrates Peace Week 2005 As part of its yearly activities, Matina Town Square launched the 2005 Peace Week on November 24, 2005 with a cultural presentation of 2005 Palanca awardee Arnel Mardoquio’s SALIMA. A weeklong schedule of performances by local artists will highlight the theme of peace ending with the traditional concert MUSIKALINAW participated by Davao’s outstanding performance artists on November 30 at Matina Town Square’s Taboan. SALIMA, now on its second season, is presented by Earth Music Foundation and has twice toured Mindanao, with two major performances at the Folk Arts Theater under the auspices of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Its depiction of the Mindanao war and the continuing refugee situation is a timely reminder that peace in our time is still the most important agenda. Other notable performances include a special cultural showcase with the return performance of MEBUYAN WOMEN. This group of multi-talented local women artists will feature newly composed pieces plus especially arranged international compositions that have brought them both national and international acclaim in their Manila and India concerts in 2004. Peace Week is a welcome delight for all as it features local standouts Hi-Lites, Positive Madness, G-String, Eugene Villarino, Magtanggol Duet, and Maan Chua in a weeklong dedication and call for peace in Mindanao and the world as a whole. |
